Inaugural BELA Debate with EC President J.M. Barroso

The debate took place in the Neues Museum in Berlin on 19 February 2009 and was entitled "Agenda for the European Union - Looking Beyond the Financial Crisis".

The event featured a key-note speech by the President of the European Commission José Manuel Durão Barroso and an interactive session of questions and answers. It was moderated by Quentin Peel, the distinguished columnist of The Financial Times. The intention of the BELA debate was to look beyond the turbulence of the day, be it that of the financial markets or of the reform of the Union's institutions, in order to identify the dynamics which will drive the European project forward into the next decade.
